Art historian's secrets - a photo on Flickriver

◄ Recently, I have not finished any of my knitting or sewing projects to share, therefore I am posting few pictures of this mushroom exhibition that I and my husband ran into in a small town in Šumava mountains (South-western Bohemia). I am also posting it for the reason that mushrooms or rather toadstools are such a popular depiction, who knows why, on childrens' clothes and toys that my photoblog tends to be about. Of course, they are considered a kitch, but a kitch changes its meaning and subject over a time and I think it is over for a mushroom now.

The exhibition was placed in a local school and put together by a teacher and her pupils. Although it was clearly supposed to be a natural scientific exhibition, the teacher did not hesitate to arrange the mushrooms into artistic compositions, adding moss, cones, needles and other gifts of a forest to it, including even stuffed animals pulled out from a school natural lab, that such Marseus van Schrieck would not be ashamed for having it in his painting.

Then the drawings by kids were only proving what creative power is there in real mushrooms. No reason to be worried, I did not see any psylocibe in the exhibition. Mentioning that, they say the Celts who once used to inhabit these mountains in the 4th century b.C. would use this mushroom species for their rituals. There is no prove to that but it is an attractive hypothesis. ►
