- Le Krafla : De 1975 à 1984, une nouvelle série d'éruptions et de tremblements de terre (Kröflueldar) s'est concentrée dans la caldeira et en particulier à Leirhnjúkur. La coulée de Leirhnjúkshraun est encore chaude et continue à dégazer ainsi que la zone de solfatares, de mares de boue et de fumerolles.
- Pendant cette phase, on a pu mesurer plusieurs phases de gonflement et de dégonflement du plancher de la caldeira. On a aussi pu mesurer un écartement des bords est et ouest de la caldeira de 900 mm pendant les 9 ans du cycle, démontrant ainsi que l'ouverture du rift est un processus discontinu.
- La dernière éruption du Krafla Leirhnjúkur a eu lieu en 1984, c'est un volcan très surveillé . (Source Wikipédia)
Leirhnjukur est un des meilleurs exemples de ce qui fait de l'Islande un lieu où vous pouvez ressentir la puissance de la Nature. Cette zone géothermique au Nord de l'Islande est en partie un champ de lave qui fume encore, 30 après le dernier évènement volcanique.
- Ce qu'on appelle Leirhnjukur est une zone de la caldeira Krafla autour d'une formation rhyolitique (593 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer). La colline s'élève à moins de 50 mètres au-dessus du champ de lave environnant.

- The Krafla: From 1975 to 1984, a new series of eruptions and earthquakes (Kröflueldar) concentrated in the caldera and in particular in Leirhnjúkur. The Leirhnjúkshraun flow is still hot and continues to degas as well as the area of solfatares, mud pools and fumaroles.
- During this phase, it was possible to measure several phases of inflation and deflation of the caldera floor. It was also possible to measure a separation of the east and west edges of the caldera of 900 mm during the 9 years of the cycle, thus demonstrating that the opening of the rift is a discontinuous process.
- The last eruption of Krafla Leirhnjúkur took place in 1984, it is a very supervised volcano. (Source Wikipedia)
Leirhnjukur is one of the best examples of what makes Iceland a place where you can feel the power of Nature. This geothermal area in the north of Iceland is partly a lava field which is still smoking, 30 after the last volcanic event.
- What is called Leirhnjukur is an area of the Krafla caldera around a rhyolitic formation (593 meters above sea level). The hill rises less than 50 meters above the surrounding lava field.
