A special visitor in early spring migration.

            An American Woodcock, or Timberdoodle, blending into the background while foraging for worms. I was delighted to find this bird in Central Park, north of midtown where these birds are more often seen, as they have difficulty navigating the maze of tall buildings on their northward migration and need to be rescued after collisions. Hopefully this one makes it North safely. This woodcock was disturbed by a marauding squirrel, but I like this slightly ruffled look as it shows its magnificent plumage in more detail. Admired at the Pool, Central Park, New York.
