Bavaria's Amazon: Nature on the free-flowing Danube (explored)

            The Danube between Straubing and Vilshofen is accompanied by wild riparian forests, criss-crossed by winding arms of water. The Great Curlew breeds on wet meadows, kingfishers fly between gnarled pastures and countless water surfaces. Water irises and swamp gladiolus grow on the banks

The free-flowing Danube with the mouth of the Isar river allows one of the last large riparian forests of Central Europe to grow. Side arms and oxbow lakes run through the Amazon-like forest. The fantastic variety of plants and animals above and below the water is unique in Bavaria. .
