Ossetische Verteranen spielen Billard mit Gewehrkugeln, die Georgier symbolisieren. Südossetien erklärte sich 1990 selbsständig und konnte den folgenden Sezessionskrieg gegen die Georgier für sich entscheiden. Zwischen Georgien und der abtrünnigen Region, die den Anschluß an die Russische Förderation fordert, kommt es trotz des Waffenstillstandsabkommens von 1992 immer wieder zu bewaffneten Ausseinandersetzungen.

South Ossetia is a de facto independent republic located within the internationally recognized borders of Georgia. Although this former Soviet autonomous region has declared its independence in 1990. After the following civil war between georgians and ossetians ends in 1992, most parts of the territory is ossetian controlled, while some villages with georgian population are administrated by an georgian "Alternative Government".
