A wet autumn

            This flashes back to a really wet autumn over a decade ago.  The question is, which cottonwood snag will go down next? The floods floated some downed cotton into piles in the river bottom as it started to overrun the banks here in the valley. I looks like the skies completely rained themselves out already. Here is another blast from the past; I will be queing up more. In any case, this autumn flooded the valley with color right after the St. Vrain flooded everything else around. This is from my autumn walk on the river road which strikes northwest from the back of Broley. An EPA-FEMA vehicle drove by as I walked the road afterward and a bald eagle decided to use an old snag tree for lunch spotting - ground hogs and mice. He is going to find it's work with all these spots to hide. Ronnie thinks the flood flushed all the burrowing critters. I need to start earlier tomorrow. Ramey across the road is a real poster boy for the flood damage and a wealth of photo ops.  

Here is yet another autumn trees picture; the cottonwood snag, right, may become my favorite tree now especially since I found that the baldy likes it too. This autumn has painted the lane with it's summer leaves. Maybe this is what sublime means. This fall struggled on it's way out but it did have some character to track down. I decided that this was a pretty good title. When I first saw this, I didn't think I could make anything of the sky but I guess a blank one was OK for the day. The skies have been a really mixed bag lately. A front is due in again so I'd better get a move on it. 

The floods came from the river up ahead and flowed across Broley and Ramey, out the lane to the farm and across the gravel ponds in the back and to the south of where I am standing here. And they thought that the only trouble the gravel pits could bring was West Nile. I had no choice but to walk the river road on the north of the ponds. Boy, the river bottom collected a load of propane and empty gasoline tanks. Anything that floats. I found a golf ball and a basket ball today although I thought the golfs were an endangered species! I guess if a flood can move rocks around, it can move golf ball. My cousin is using the ball and others now.

 Still, it is now a pretty good place for a quiet relaxing walk.
