São Jorge is the island of the “fajãs”, small and permanent debris fields along the coast, built from the collapsing cliffs. “Fajã da Ribeira da Areia”, on the north coast, stands out for the wonderful coastline, the amazing geological formations and the beautiful basalt stone arches.

São Jorge é a ilha das arribas, falésias e das fajãs, pequenas planícies junto à costa, que tiveram origem em desabamentos de terras ou lava. A Fajã da Ribeira da Areia, na costa norte, destaca-se pela maravilhosa orla costeira, as incríveis formações geológicas e os belíssimos arcos de pedra basáltica.
