The Monument au 106e Régiment d'infanterie (monument to the 106th Infantry Regiment) is the work of Maxime Réal del Sarte. The monument was inaugurated on June 30, 1935. The monument is pyramidal in shape and dominated by a human head carried by emaciated hands. Under the head is the inscription "Je crois" (I believe).

The monument was built in memory of those who died during the Battle of Éparges, a series of battles for the control of Éparges Ridge between the 12th Infantry Division of the 1st French Army and the 33rd German Infantry Division from February 17 to April 5, 1915 during World War I.

These fights took place in extremely difficult conditions, in the rain, snow, and mud. The infantry of the two camps had to remain for long weeks under the blows of the artillery. The French army tried during several assaults to conquer the ridge, after very heavy losses on both sides, the French managed to gain a foothold on the ridge without being able to completely dislodge the Germans.

This battle is one of the first to present many characteristics that will prove to be classic of the First World War: a duration of several weeks, series of attacks and counter-attacks with many losses for little or no territorial gains. It announces the battles of Verdun and the Somme.
