Peace Tower, Ottawa - a photo on Flickriver

            The Peace Tower is the central tower of the main building of goverment on Parliament Hill, Ottawa. The building was constructed between 1916 and 1922. The tower is dedicated to Canadian soldiers who died in WWI. It is over 300 feet high. It's a freestanding bell tower, which chime the quarter hours and strike the hours. It houses the carillon, a set of bells sounded from a keyboard. There are 53 bells in all. The largest weighs in at over 22 thousand pounds; the smallest at 10 pounds. Winner of weekly theme "towers" 4-11 June, 2008, The Unforgettable Pictures group and featured on home page of the pool.
