Goodbye and Good Riddance - a photo on Flickriver

            A quick detour on the drive into work on Thursday 22/08/2019 meant I was able to catch the above - 37884 hauling 314207 on it's final journey on Scottish metals. The unit was being moved from Yoker to Newport via Crewe for scrapping.

I've seen some people express sadness regarding the scrapping of these units but I can't say I share the sentiment. I've been a regular user of these units on the Newton - Glasgow route over the last few years and I wouldn't consider them a pleasant travelling environment in the slightest. They're dirty, noisy and the lack of door controls meaning all doors open at every station was awful in the winter / poor weather. The narrow seats in 2+3 configuration also made things cosy in peak times, though they did have a decent amount of standing room and felt a bit more spacious than a 318/320 which works in their favour I guess.

There's no denying they've served the Strathclyde region well over the last 40 years, but they're way past their prime and the newer 380s and 385s are a huge step up in my view.
