Taking it all in! - a photo on Flickriver

            At the exhibition of south African artist/photographer, Zanele Muholi at Stedelijk museum, Amsterdam. 
You know you have a soulmate for life, when she never questions a request to pose in front of wall, full of photographs in the middle of a museum, not knowing in advance what my vision for the final image would ever be. Reminds me of a quote by David Armistead. "When the trust level gets high enough, people transcend apparent limits, discovering new abilities of which they were previously unaware of."

This is an image from my Cityscape Portraiture series directed at re-examining the traditional, supporting role of a city background to a defined subject in portraiture. 
In this series, an original photograph/frame is blended with the elements taken from the edges of the frame to create an expanded cityscape surrounding the subject. 
By manipulating both proportion (relative size of the subject to its surrounding) and scale (overall size of the elements within composition), the new image aims to “blur” the line between the subject and its surrounding by each playing a competing yet supporting role toward the total composition.
