Saint Anthony of Padua, Italy (also known as Anthony of Lisbon, Portugal, where he was born in 1195) is the most celebrated student of Saint Francis of Assisi. He is widely regarded as the patron saint of lost things, and in Portugal and Brazil, he is regarded as a marriage saint for the many marriages which he reconciled. On June 13, 1231, he died aged 36.

Pride makes our hearts an abomination to God, and puts him at the greatest distance from us. This is the deep wound of our souls, the main-spring of all our passions, the deadly poison of virtue, the fortress of the devil, and the source of all disorders. If we perfectly root out this evil, then will divine grace begin to establish its reign, and display its treasures in our souls.

(That last paragraph is from the church's website about St. Anthony and how he became sainted. I included it because, in a very real way, as I examine my life, I sense that for me, my life has been for years wrapped around with pride in so many different areas.)
