MYSTERION was launched in Vancouver in 1927. Builder Russell Arbuthnot used teak and mahogany scrapped from the 1887 Empress of Japan, a luxury liner of the Canadian Pacific Railway, for exterior decks, walkways and interior woodwork. 
 
Mysterion was launched in Vancouver in 1927. Builder Russell Arbuthnot was experienced in boat cabinetry and used teak and mahogany scrapped from the 1887 Empress of Japan, a luxury liner of the Canadian Pacific Railway for exterior decks, walkways and interior woodwork. Her original name was Mardonbill.  Over time the Mardonbill was renamed Acrasia, then Alcan, and after 2002, Mysterion – a Greek word for mystery. 
 
Mysterion has sailed widely, including trips to Alaska with her 400 gallon diesel tanks and 200 gallon water tanks.  She was also used in the 1993 Stephen King movie, Needful Things, shot in Gibsons Landing, British Columbia.  In 2009, Mysterion was purchaed and returned to Vancouver and underwent an extensive restoration by her present owners (completed by 2015).
