Hortensia is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangeaceae, native to Japan. It is a deciduous shrub growing to 2 m (7 ft) tall by 2.5 m (8 ft) broad with large heads of pink or blue flowers in summer and autumn. Common names include bigleaf hydrangea, French hydrangea, lacecap hydrangea, mophead hydrangea, penny mac, and hortensia. It is widely cultivated in many parts of the world in many climates. It is not to be confused with H. aspera 'Macrophylla''

Hortensia is een soort van bloeiende plant in de familie Hydrangeaceae, afkomstig uit Japan. Het is een bladverliezende struik die groeit tot 2 m (7 ft) lang en 2,5 m (8 ft) breed met grote koppen van roze of blauwe bloemen in de zomer en herfst. Veel voorkomende namen zijn onder meer grootbladige hortensia, Franse hortensia, lacecap-hortensia, mophead-hortensia, penny mac en hortensia. Het wordt op grote schaal gekweekt in vele delen van de wereld in vele klimaten. Het is niet te verwarren met H. aspera 'Macrophylla''

È un arbusto deciduo che cresce fino a 2 m (7 piedi) di altezza per 2,5 m (8 piedi) di larghezza con grandi capolini di fiori rosa o blu in estate e in autunno. I nomi comuni includono ortensia bigleaf, ortensia francese, ortensia lacecap, ortensia mophead, penny mac e hortensia. È ampiamente coltivato in molte parti del mondo in molti climi. Non deve essere confuso con H. aspera 'Macrophylla'
