Voorhout (NL) | 2024 | Lineas 186 296

            When I was at work in the east of The Netherlands, I heard someone singing "Go west! Where the skies are blue" on the radio. I guess that was a reaction on me wondering whether I should head to the west of the country in order to get the Venice Simplon Orient Express on photo that evening. The VSOE was heading from Venice (no surprise there, right?) to Amsterdam via Paris and Brussels. It was planned to arrive just after 8pm at Amsterdam. The loco hauling the train would be a traxx and I was called in the morning that the one hauling the train between Schaarbeek and Amsterdam would be the 186 296. Not the most exciting loco in Lineas' fleet, but the train itself was unique enough that taking a picture would be worth the effort. Or at least if there would be blue skies.

So after work I headed off for Amsterdam and Voorhout. I'd travel via Haarlem so I could look at the flower fields and check out my planned location. When I was about to alight at Voorhout, the door malfunctioned and I was stuck in the train until Leiden. And at Leiden the return train was cancelled. So I got a rental bike and headed back. When I arrived at one of the few locations that would be possible with the sun almost under the horizon I had only about 5 minutes to get my desired position. And while lots of photographers had full overcast for this train, life was peaceful here in Voorhout as the train approached just when I was ready for it.
