Reflecting on The Sacred Heart: Artist Stephen B Whatley. 2013

About to be parted from his work, artist Stephen B Whatley spends last moments with his painting The Sacred Heart of Jesus - then on show in his recent London exhibition - currently en route for Miami, USA, where it will become part of the permanent collection of The Carrollton School of The Sacred Heart.Tracking its shipment, today (2 June) finds the painting in New York City Gateway.

The Norwegian expressionist Edvard Munch ( 1863-1944 ) - on whom Whatley focused his thesis at art school in the 1980s - said that when his work sold it was like losing one of his children; even though so necessary for an artist's living. So deeply heartfelt is Stephen's work that he too can relate to this sentiment; but knows that such works are to be shared.

The Feast Day of The Sacred Heart of Jesus is commemorated on June 7th; by which time it is planned that this painting will be displayed in the sanctuary of The Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart's chapel; for generations of students.

Stephen B Whatley was born in London in 1965 and has been exhibiting since 1988. His expressionist oil paintings - which have been published in TIME magazine - are in private collections worldwide & public collections including the Royal Collection, BBC Heritage & the London Transport Museum.Visitors to the Tower of London can see a permanent display of his series of 30 paintings commissioned in 2000, reproduced throughout Tower Hill Underpass that leads from Tower Hill Station to the Tower.
