29/100 Gisela Chevalier- American - a photo on Flickriver

Gisela Chevalier is an American. Politically active and aware in ways that many Americans are not, Grisela fears the future. She sees an apathy and blissful ignorance in the American people that she believes will bring about the decline of liberty in the United States.

Gisela knows. She has been there. She was born in Cuba, and saw Cuba lose it's freedom under Fidel Castro's regime. Gisela immigrated to the United States in 1985. She knows from personal experience how countries blindly turn towards socialism and communism.

Although she lost her family in Cuba, Gisela established a life in the familiar heat and humidity of South Louisiana. She married a Louisiana troupador, and built several businesses, including the first bilingual driving school in Louisiana. She has made the telling of her story a personal mission.

After she passionately brought an audience to its feet at a political rally, I introduced myself and asked if she would pose in front of the Stars and Stripes. The first few shots were rather stiff and not very flattering, but then something happened off camera and Gisela laughed the laugh of a free woman. I'm glad I was able to capture her soul.
