The Yeni Valide Mosque, Istanbul, Turkey

            The Yeni Valide Mosque (Turkish: Yeni Valide Camii) is an Ottoman mosque in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul, Turkey.

It was built between the 1708 and 1710 on the iskele (dock) road by Emetullah Râbi'a Gülnûş Sultan, mother of Sultan Ahmed III. The main part of the building is square in shape and covered with a flattened main dome and four half domes. The mosque has two minarets with two balconies each. Calligraphy inside the mosque is the work of Hezarfen Mehmet Efendi.

Emetullah Rabia Gülnûş Sultan was the wife of Ottoman Sultan Mehmed IV. He was famous for his hunting expeditions in the Balkans and used to take his favourite to these expeditions. They had two sons both of whom became the future Sultans, Mustafa II and Ahmet III who was born in Dobruca during one of the hunting expeditions of Mehmed IV.

She became Valide in 1695 when her older son Mustafa II became the Sultan. For 20 years she was the influential Valide Sultan. In 1703, she was asked to confirm and approve of the succession of her other son, III. Ahmet. She died on 1715 in Edirne during the reign of her son Ahmed III just before the start of the era of prosperity and peace called the Tulip ( Lâle ) Era by the Turkish historians. She is buried at a tomb that is open to sky which is near the Üsküdar Yeni Valide Mosque.
