2020 - Vancouver - Canada's North Star by Wade Baker

            A stainless steel sculpture by Vancouver based artist Wade Baker resides on the south shore of East False Creek.

Wade Baker's stainless steel "Canada’s North Star" was commissioned for the 2010 Olympics and stands at the Vancouver 2010 Winter  Olympic Games Village site. 

One of the highlights for Wade was meeting Prince Charles when the North Star was unveiled in 2009.

Baker also produced smaller public art designs and in 2000, his wolf design was selected to be part of the millennium series of Royal Canadian Mint quarters. 50 million $.25 cent pieces were produced with Baker's design.

Baker, a member of the Squamish First Nation, was born in 1956 in Vancouver, his current home. Wade is a self-taught artist who was inspired as a child by watching his relatives Mungo Martin and Henry Hunt, both master carvers. 

Wade Baker & Mary Tasi own Sky Spirit Studio started in 1995.
