D27949. Compared with today’s luxury coaches, this 1922 Maxwell Charabanc is somewhat spartan and primitive. But no doubt back in the day it was the height of luxury and ideal for local sightseeing trips such as the one advertised on the board in front of it.

It was built in Detroit and although the name Maxwell has disappeared from the motor industry, the company lives on as it was to become part of the now giant Chrysler Corporation in 1925.

It can be seen on display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu in the New Forest, Hampshire.
