"Brave & Competent" - Tamarama Beach, Australia

            I don't pretend to know much about this amazing country or the people who inhabit it, but from what little I've seen 'Brave & Competent' seems to apply to their relationship with the sea.  I would have to be totally insane to venture out from shore in waves like this, but I repeatedly watched locals swim alone, and without lifeguards on duty, into such frothing waters. This woman dove in, swam around a while out past the breakers, then safely returned to towel off and go on about her day.  On the next beach over about 30 children were learning how to surf in this.  Did I mention sharks and jellyfish as added concerns (should the waves and rip currents not be sufficient to scare one off)?  Not for the faint of heart, nor occasional beach-goer...
