French actress Renée Saint-Cyr (1907-2004), originally Marie-Louise Eugénie Vittore, starter her career as opera singer, winning a first prize at the Conservatory of Marseille. She first appeared on stage in the children's revue Allo! Cherie! and her first film role was right away the lead of Henriette in Les Deux Orphelines (1932) by Maurice Tourneur. While she continued to play on stage as in 1937 in The Beggar's Opera (where she acted as Polly Peachum), her main film career evolved between 1932 and 1943, when she performed in over 30 films, ranging from Incognito (1933) by Kurt Gerron and Le Dernier Milliardaire (1934) by René Clair, to Pattes de mouches (1936) by Jean Gremillon and Les perles de la couronne (1937) by Sacha Guitry and Christian Jacque. In 1940 she went to Italy to play opposite Vittorio De Sica in his own film Rose scarlatte , based on a play by Aldo de Benedetti.  During the war years Saint-Cyr played in films by Daquin, Christian-Jacque, Choux, Fescourt, Valentin, Cayatte, De Herain, such as La Symphonie fantastique (1942) by Christian-Jacque. In the late 1940s, she played in several films by Louis Cuny, while in the early 1950s she co-produced films with herself, such as Fusillé à l'aube (André Haguet 1950), and played Empress Eugénie in Sacha Guitry's Si Paris nous était conté (1955) - her second real name was Eugénie too. From the mid-1960s to the early 1990s, Renée Saint-Cyr played in 10 films directed by her own son, Georges Lautner, plus in some other films and in television series. Despite her development in acting from youth to middle age to old age, she remained the classy lady. In the television series Palace (1988) by Jean-Michel Ribes she often performed as the keeper of good taste. 

Renée Saint-Cyr published her memories in 1967 (Le Temps de vivre) and 1990 ( En toute mauvaise foi).
