The Hicks-Perry-Bland-Holmes House is located at 304 N. Main Street in Louisburg, North Carolina. This frame Neoclassical home was built circa 1914 for Brantley Hicks by local architect, M. Stuart Davis. The next owner (1920) was O. H. Harris, who sold the home in 1928 to Dr. H. G. Perry, who made additions to the rear and used the first floor as a hospital clinic with living quarters on the second floor. In 1947 Dr. Charles Bland bought the house from the Perry Estate, also maintaining the house as clinic until his death. His widow sold the house in 1963 to Robert Fleming, who then sold the property to Graham Holmes in 1965. The neglected house sits on a slight rise with trees and foliage preventing the best view. Columns are split and separating from the pedimented gable, and the first story porch shows signs of buckling (see shots 3 and 4). The house has a low hipped roof. Its façade is symmetrical, set off dramatically by two pairs of massive fluted Ionic columns to form a 2-story portico. The capitals are just below a frieze with dentil molding. The portico roof is a pedimented gable with a boxed cornice and a lunette-shaped louvered vent. The one-story porch extends almost the entire front façade, and four slender Ionic columns support the porch roof. There are turned balusters. Flush with the wall at each end of the porch are fluted pilasters. To either side of the door, the fluted pattern of the massive portico columns is mimicked in wide pilasters. The balcony above the porch does not extend the full width of the structure; the balusters are also turned. At the corners of the front façade are cornerposts, chamfered and fluted but with Doric capitals rather than Ionic. Windows on both levels are 6/6 sash with full surrounds. From the street and angled walk leads to wooden steps onto the entry porch. The entrance is a single wooden leaf with sidelights above recessed panels and an arched fanlight with a sunburst design (not visible in the photos); a drip mold is above the fanlight. It was difficult to get a comprehensive view of the home, and I was unable to find any position to photograph the sides well. The time of day was not conducive to the best architectural shots. The house is included in the Louisburg Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places June 19, 1972, ID # 72000962
