Down the lonesome road - a photo on Flickriver

            The geology of the area where the dinosaur tracks are on display is best described as "badlands." This region was once of course part of an enormous seabed; the striations  reflect differing sediments laid down during fluctuating periods of inundation and volcanic output. The colors including   deep red "chugwater" reflect the concentrations of metals such as iron and minerals in the sediments.

Today the area is desert that supports a variety of vegetation and most notably, herds of pronghorns adapted to thrive on sage brush.
