Impressions Light Show, Yangshuo, China

            The Impressions light show; set amongst the Karst scenery of Yangshuo tells the story of a girl Liu Sanjie (meaning third sister) during the tang dynasty.

Liu Sanjie was one of the Zhuang people and was the daughter of a farmer.  Growing up she was good at reciting chinese poems and created folk songs; inspired by the karst scenery but told of the repression she felt from the landlords who overtaxed them. She had to flee Liuzhou, where she lived and sailed to Yangshuo on a bamboo boat. 
Here landlords still over taxed and Liu sung songs to show she was against them. As a result she was kidnapped by one of the landlords, but whilst she was captured the local farmers staged an uprising and she managed to escape. A ultimatum was proposed to the landlord, by the farmers, that they should have a singing match and if the farmers won, they would no longer have to pay taxes. The landlord accepted and invited many traditional scholars to help him defeat the farmers, but with Liu helping the farmers they won and the farmers were freed from the landlords taxes.
