Exploring Lake Skadar National Park - a photo on Flickriver

Montenegro is a country in Eastern Europe bordering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and the Adriatic Sea. It used to be a part of Yugoslavia. The capital is Podgorica. The name Montenegro is Italian and means Black mountain. The mountainous hinterland is home to deep gorges, flowing rivers, glacial lakes and old-growth forests, popular for adventure activities. Crnojević River is a river close to the northeastern shores of Lake Skadar. The source of Rijeka Crnojevića is located 2.5 km southwest of the town of Rijeka Crnojevića, under the cave in the Obod Hill. Lake Skadar belongs to Albania and Montenegro, and is the largest lake in Southern Europe. The Montenegrin part of the lake and the surrounding land has been designated a national park, while the Albanian part is a nature reserve. We stay in Novak Reijecani, a small farm with rooms for rent located on the edge of the canyon where the river and the lake meet. From our rooms we have a beautiful panoramic view of the Skadar Lake National Park and Crnojević river. A peaceful and quiet environment with small vineyards where exceptional wine is made. In addition to comfortable accommodation, we enjoy the rich flora and fauna of this place. Down by the river there is a natural private beach which is an ideal place for swimming, fishing and diving. Nearby there is a lake and mountain trails leading to the nearby peaks with great views. There are also boat trips on the river and lake, ideal for getting to know the beauties of Lake Skadar National Park.

Montenegro is een land in Oost-Europa en grenst aan Bosnië en Herzegovina, Servië, Kosovo, Albanië en de Adriatische Zee. Vroeger was het een deel van Joegoslavië. De hoofdstad is Podgorica. De naam Montenegro is Italiaans en betekent Zwarte berg. Montenegro was tussen 1878 en 1910 een zelfstandig prinsdom en tot 1918 een zelfstandig koninkrijk. Dat jaar werd Montenegro onderdeel van Joegoslavië. In 2003 werd Joegoslavië omgevormd in het nieuwe land Servië en Montenegro, maar dit viel in 2006 uit elkaar toen beide landen een eigen weg gingen. Montenegro is misschien klein, maar deze prachtige natie heeft een enorm scala aan natuurlijke en door de mens gemaakte wonderen. Ooit over het hoofd gezien ten gunste van meer bekende mediterrane landen, krijgt Montenegro snel een reputatie als een geweldige plek om te reizen. Het is gemakkelijk te zien waarom. Het bergachtige achterland herbergt diepe kloven, stromende rivieren, gletsjermeren en oerbossen, populair voor avontuurlijke activiteiten. De Rivier van Crnojević is een rivier dicht bij de noordoostelijke oevers van het meer van Skadar. De bron van Rijeka Crnojevića ligt 2,5 km ten zuidwesten van de stad Rijeka Crnojevića, onder de grot in de Obod-heuvel. Wij verblijven in Novak Reijecani, een kleine boerderij met kamers te huur gelegen aan de rand van de canyon waar de rivier en het meer samenkomen. We hebben vanaf onze kamers een prachtig panorama uitzicht op het Skadar Lake National Park en Crnojević rivier. Een rustige en stille omgeving met kleine wijngaarden waar uitzonderlijke wijn wordt gemaakt. Naast comfortabele accommodatie genieten we van de rijke flora en fauna van deze plek. Beneden bij de rivier is er een natuurlijk privé strand dat een ideale plek biedt voor zwemmen, vissen en duiken. In de buurt is er een meer en bergpaden naar de nabijgelegen toppen lopen met een geweldig uitzicht. Er zijn ook boottochten op de rivier en het meer, ideaal om zo kennis te maken met de schoonheden van het Nationaal Park Skadarmeer.
