Dragonfly (Anisoptera) - a photo on Flickriver

            This is a bit of an experiment in how far I can crop in Lightroom, utilising all its tools including the "Super Resolution" "Enhance" functionality.

As originally cropped this was just 3.4 MP.  "Enhance" nominally raises that to 13.5 MP, though if you actually zoom in at all it becomes apparent it has much less detail than a 13.5 MP image should.  Nonetheless, when viewed at more typical screen sizes, it does significantly increase the perceived detail - particularly in the head.  It also adds unsightly artefacts in the slightly-out-of-focus areas, though IMO those can be overlooked at lower display resolutions.

This is one of the few photos where I've felt the "Super Resolution" version was better than the regular.  Generally it introduces too many ugly artefacts that are visible even at low viewing resolutions.

Tangentially, I've dabbled a bit with Topaz Gigapixel AI. Its results are significantly better than Lightroom's (though far from flawless).  Alas, it's quite expensive, very slow to use, and requires a more complicated workflow.
