US Navy Grumman S-2 Tracker sbd nose, #2 engine CVS 12 USS Hornet DSC_0419

            This S-2 Tracker represents an S-2B, 136691, which was lost at sea with her crew, in the 1960s. In the hanger deck of USS Hornet CVS-12 museum. 

The memorial markings include aft fuselage BuNo "136691", aircraft ID "12", in various places, and the squadron marking,  "VS-35" on the aft fuselage. The aft engine nacelles carry "USS HORNET". The squadron badge is painted below the cockpit windows. A red fin and rudder tip, and red chevrons pointing forward (">"), and black letters "NV" on both sides of the fin and rudder. The crew names, pilot, co-pilot, and both sensor operators, are marked outside their stations.

The actual airframe is 149252, an S-2E, The correct BuNo is in large numerals on the fin and rudder, and the correct model id is on the aft fuselage, with the memorial BuNo and squadron ID. 

The finish is standard 1960s colors, FS595 16440 glossy Light Gull Gray over white, with white control surfaces and black anti-reflection markings ahead of the windshields and on the surfaces of the engine structure facing the cockpit.
