Oakland, a city with a lake, channel, near-by island and Bay DSC_0124

            Lake Merrett, Port of Oakland outer and inner harbors, Alameda Island, San Francisco Bay. The 1200 foot elevation I took this from supplies plenty of runoff. A very steep suburbia. 

The peak of the Little Round Top volcano is 1800 feet, 540 meters, less than a mile, 1.7 km, behind me. The Hayward Fault is raising the hills from Hayward and points South to Richmond and beyond.  

The Bay Bridge, Northern part of San Francisco, Yerba Buena Island, Bay bridge, etc. are all North from here, off to the right. San Francisco International Airport is in Burlingame / South San Francisco, about the center of this photo. Brisbane and the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard are on the opposite shore north of the airport.

It looks like this picture is tilted to the left but that's the illusion created by the shoreline and Coast Range. SFO runway 28 is directly in the middle of this photo, to its right is the Brisbane shoreline, dead level with respect to the cropping edge. The sweep of the West shore of Alameda is what makes it all look tilted. Check the buildings in downtown for vertical edges and level roofs. All the ships anchored are also level. As is the flight deck of the USS Hornet Museum, to the left of the tall buildings downtown.
