Grachtenboot in Friedrichstadt - a photo on Flickriver

             Friedrichstadt wurde 1621 gegründet, ein Herzog warb Menschen aus Holland an, die wegen ihrer Religion verfolgt wurden. Er versprach ihnen Steuerbefreiung und mehr, wenn sie sich an der Treene ansiedeln würden. Die Holländer bauten die Stadt wie sie es von ihrer Heimat kannten: mit vielen Wasserläufen und  Häusern mit Treppengiebeln. in der Stadt herrschte Religionsfreiheit, so dass auch andere verfolgte Gruppen sich ansiedelten.
