Clyde Pufffer Memorial - a photo on Flickriver

            This memorial sculpture by Elspeth Bennie sits by the side of the modern marina at Kirkintilloch on the Forth and Clyde Canal, close to where many of these ships were made back when heavy industry was king (shipbuilding and foundries were big business in this area, all mostly vanished now, of course). Many of these classic "Clyde Puffers" were built and launched around this spot, sailing the canal network but also the rivers and out to sea, taking goods back and forth from the Scottish mainland to the islands, a vital network back in the day.
