Stand Out, Be Outstanding - a photo on Flickriver

            Yesterday, we took a road trip to the SW of SW Ontario.  Well, not really all that SW, but, YKWIM.  The normally sleepy town of Wallaceburg (named after William Wallace) was not just sleepy, it had slipped into the premier episode of The Twilight Zone ("Where Is Everybody?").  Wallaceburg is located on the Sydenham River, not far from Walpole Island.  They have a great vintage car/boat/firetruck event every beginning of August.  We wandered around the waterfront, on the western side of the river, and some of the unique buildings that are found in the downtown core.  I discovered that... "In 1878, James Paris Lee (1832–1904) and his brother John perfected a rifle with a box magazine in Wallaceburg. This rifle later became an antecedent to the famous Lee–Enfield rifle. A well trained gunman could fire approximately 15-30 shots a minute. The prototype was tested successfully in Wallaceburg and is currently housed at the Wallaceburg and District Museum."  These little lovelies were at a tiny downtown parkette honouring the family and their many accomplishments in the area.
