Train 51 Bangkok - Chiang Mai - a photo on Flickriver

            This is a narrow-gauge railway with a rather bad track. Train 51 leaves bangkok Station at 22.00 and arrives at Chiang Mai at 12:19 the next day, meaning it takes 14 h and 19 min to complete the trip, according to the timetable for 2021. I have made 4 such trips in earlier years, at least threee times the train took a couple of more hours to arrive. The carriagess are built in North Korea and are quite basic. The comfort isn't super, but they are nice trips, nevertheless. There are usually nice passengers to talk to and share stories, food and drink with. The train staff ar fun and helpful ,selling basic food and drink. It has simple sleeper accomodation at a reasonable price. Once I was able to secure a single sleeping cabin, at around twice the price, which I thought money well spent, but they are not found on all night trains and sell out fast.
