Diademed Sandpiper-Plover (Chorlito cordillerano)

            El Yeso Dam area, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile. It was a thrill to see this bird, which took some time, perseverance, and luck. Many thanks to César from BirdsChile. These sandpiper-plovers are listed as near threatened due to habitat loss and other factors. They prefer streams and bog-like conditions in the Andes. This particular bird has multiple tags and a tracking device (I can attest that it can still fly with all these accouterments), reflecting the efforts of scientists and conservations to get a better understanding of these birds and their movements.
