Gondola Fleet, Venice - a photo on Flickriver

The modern Venetian Navy....what could be more iconic for Venice than these slender and elegant means of seeing its fine canals and water-front buildings? True, they are tourist magnets, but for a good reason. Gentle, quite and leisurely, they are a romantic echo of a time when we were not all rushing to get somewhere else while checking our smart phones for the latest forgettable message...

This shot is one of my own favorites from Venice as I was lucky enough to catch the island of San Giorgio Maggiore beautifully lit with the dying rays of sun. Taken from Piazza San Marco.
