Lemon Reservoir, Colorado

Lemon Reservoir, northeast of Durango, is a favorite spot for locals to catch rainbow trout and Kokanee salmon. Like so many areas of San Juan National Forest, the lake is even more lovely when aspens turn in Autumn, ranging in hue from bright yellow to fiery red. How much better with a thin layer of snow, like sugar frosting.

The reservoir is quite low here back in 2021, but the area received enough precipitation in 2022 and '23 that the level is balanced again. The scars from 2018's 416 Fire still show on Missionary Ridge, with a significant amount of barren hillside in view. But it is slowly recovering. I keep coming back here at different times of the year and the lake is rarely a disappointment.
