Udzungwa Red Colobus - a photo on Flickriver

            On the road outside the visitors center at Udzungwa National Park, we saw 20 Udzungwa Red Colobus monkeys in a tree. They have a semicircle of red fur that stretches from ear to ear, and their faces look almost human. The red fur around the head looks as if it has been dyed at a hair salon. This species is an endemic to Udzungwa, and a 2009 estimate of the total population was between 25,000 and 35,000. They prefer altitudes between 1,000 and 2,300 feet.
