NCC REXCO Ollerton Smokeless Fuels Plant & Sidings - 12.iv.1987

            National Carbonisation Company’s (NCC) REXCO Ollerton/Boughton Smokeless Fuels Plant adjacent to NCB Ollerton Colliery on the south side of the LDECR Main Line - view looking east across the the rail sidings towards the LD&ECR/GCR main line on 12th April 1987 - a short time before closure of the Plant. A signal on the LDECR main line can just be glimpsed on the extreme left of the plant. The facility for loading rail wagons straddles the line in the distance. Rail access to the REXCO Plant was from the Mid Notts Joint Line - which has a junction with the LD&ECR main line near Ollerton Colliery Signal Box. The Ollerton REXCO Plant closed in 1989.
Everything in this view has long disappeared - with the ending of the UK Coal Industry.....The first NCC Rexco Plant was opened at Mansfield Colliery in 1935 and other Nottinghamshire Plants followed at Thoresby Colliery in the 1950s and Ollerton Colliery in the 1963. The LDECR line here is all that survives as part of the Network Rail RIDC Test Track which runs from Edwinstowe to Tuxford and on to High Marnham.
