Strolling on the beach. - a photo on Flickriver

             North Carolina Wildhorse series. Horses are extremely adaptable in the environment that they live in. They live and walk on sand, oysters beds, and soft marshes. On more than a couple occasions I have seen them sink up to their bellies and without panicking, they work their way out of it. 
Most horses and definitely all domestic horses that are caught in that particular situation would panic and die if not rescued. Their hooves are designed to walk on soft ground as well as hard oyster shells, which is quite remarkable.
