Giraffes on the way - a photo on Flickriver

            The rothschild giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi), also known as the baringo giraffe or the Ugandan giraffe, is the second most endangered giraffe subspecies with only about 500 members, all of those that are living in the wild are in protected areas in Kenya and Uganda.
The Rothschild Giraffe, the largest subspecies with heights up to 5.5 meters, differs from the other giraffes by the lighter chestnut brown spots, a paler colored coat and usually unmarked below the knee. Rothschild's giraffes have a life expectancy of 20-30 years.

De rothschildgiraf (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi), ook bekend als de baringogiraf of de Oegandagiraf, is de tweede meest bedreigde ondersoort van de giraffen met slechts ongeveer 500 exemplaren in het wild, die alleen in beschermde gebieden in Kenia en Oeganda leven.
De Rothschildgiraf, de grootste ondersoort met hoogtes tot 5,5 meter, onderscheidt zich van de overige giraffes door de lichtere kastanjebruine vlekken, een bleker gekleurde vacht en het meestal ontbreken van vlekken onder de knie. 
Rothschild giraffen hebben een levensverwachting van 20 à 30 jaar.
Burgers Zoo, die het stamboek van deze diersoort coördineert, heeft een van de grootste groepen (25 dieren) van Europa. 
Ook Safaripark Beekse Bergen heeft een grote groep.
