Rusty but not forgotten - a photo on Flickriver

            Steam locomotive 52 8082-1 of the Museumrailway S.T.A.R. at museumstation Stadskanaal in the Netherlands. 
The Deutsche Reichsbahn's Class 52 was a German steam locomotive built in large numbers during the Second World War. With over 7,000 locomotives, built across Europe, it was the most produced type of the so-called Kriegslokomotiven or Kriegsloks (war locomotives). 6,000+ locomotives passed into Russian ownership after the Second World War. Other operators of the type included Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Norway and Turkey. 
The Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB) in East Germany (DDR) had 200 machines, including 52 8082-1,  reconstructed to the new DRB Class 52.80. The locomotive is currently being overhauled, but it retains its "neglected" appearance as most steam locomotives have had at the Deutsche Reichsbahn in recent years.
Since 1994 the Museumrailway S.T.A.R. (Stichting Stadskanaal Rail) exploits the 26 km long railwayline between Veendam, Stadskanaal en Musselkanaal with historical steamtrains.

Deze ‘Kriegslok’, gebouwd in Krenau (het huidige Poolse Chrzanów, westelijk van Krakau), kwam in 1943 in dienst voor de DRG (Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft) als 52 5190.
Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog kwam de loc in Oost-Duitsland) bij de DR (Deutsche Reichsbahn 1945-1994) in dienst en onderging daar tussen 11 april 1963 en 31 mei 1963 een reconstructie waarbij de loc onder andere een nieuwe ketel kreeg. Sinds die tijd is de loc in dienst onder het nummer 52 8082.
In 1996 kwam de loc naar de STAR. In 2015 is de STAR begonnen de loc te reviseren. Hierbij zal de loc zijn “verwaarloosde” uitstraling behouden zoals de meeste stoomlocs de laatste jaren hebben gereden bij de Deutsche Reichsbahn tot 1994.
Een bijzonderheid is dat de 52 8082-1 een bruin onderstel heeft. In de DDR was de levering van rode verf een tijdlang een probleem. In plaats van rood werd het onderstel van de stoomlocs toen goederenwagenbruin gespoten.
Museumspoorlijn S.T.A.R. (Stichting Stadskanaal Rail) rijdt sinds 1994 met historische stoomtreinen en dieseltreinen op de 26 km lange spoorlijn tussen Veendam, Stadskanaal en Musselkanaal.
