Banks of French Lavender - a photo on Flickriver

            On an excursion out today, between spring showers (the tail end of a very heavy rain event that has been going for the last few days), I was blessed with some bouts of sunshine.  This included when I was passing by a garden that had banks of beautiful French lavender with their feathery tops that have burst into bloom, much to the delight of the bees who were busily buzzing around them, gathering pollen.

Lavandula stoechas, the French lavender or topped lavender or Spanish lavender, is a species of flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae, occurring natively in several Mediterranean countries, including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece.

Melbourne has experienced a colder and wetter than average winter this year, which is now bleeding well and truly into a wetter and greyer than average spring, however on the rare sunny days we are currently getting, the showing of flowers and blossoms is beautiful.
