CORNELIA: “Daddy? Daddy!”

DADDY: “Yes Cornelia?”

CORNELIA: “Now that it is spring time, there are lots of flowers around and about, aren’t there?”

DADDY: “Yes Cornelia, there are. Why do you ask?”

CORNELIA: “Well, I would like to go and see some. It has been so grey over winter time, and I have a longing for pretty colours, especially pink, which as you know is my most favourite colour of all.”

DADDY: “Then I think I know just the place, Cornelia. Come along and climb into my arms.”

CORNELIA: “Where are we going, Daddy?”

DADDY: “I am going to take you to the Fitzroy Gardens, Cornelia.”

CORNELIA: “The Fitzroy Gardens. They sound pretty. I haven’t heard of them. Have we been there before?”

DADDY: “No Cornelia. I have, and Paddy and Scout have, but you haven’t. It’s too far away for us to walk, so we will catch a tram there. There should be some pretty plantings in the gardens now that it is spring, with lots of pink!”

CORNELIA: “Just for me, daddy?”

DADDY: “Yes, just for you Cornelia.”

CORNELIA and DADDY: *Catch a tram to the Fitzroy Gardens.*

DADDY: “Look Cornelia! See the wonderful plantings of pink lollypop primulas?”

CORNELIA: “Oh my goodness Daddy! There are just beautiful!” *Sighs.*

DADDY: “That was a big sigh Cornelia.”

CORNELIA: *Looks at Daddy.* “Yes it was Daddy.”

DADDY: “But why, Cornelia? Are you sad?”

CORNELIA: “Well no Daddy… well sort of, Daddy. I was sighing because they are so beautiful. Then I thought how sad it is not to share their beauty with my best friend Moesje! She loves flowers you know.”

DADDY: “Yes, I know she does.”

CORNELIA: “And then I thought the garden bed might be a fun place for Moesje and I to play hide and seek, and Punky and his best friend Percy the Panda too!”

DADDY: “Well, why don’t you ask them to come and play, Cornelia? This way you can meet Percy. I know Percy wants to meet you too.”

CORNELIA: “What a capital idea, Daddy! I shall ask them now!”

DADDY: “Very good, Cornelia!”

CORNELIA: “Moesje! Moesje my best friend! Sweet friend Punky! Percy, my wonderful new friend! Would you all like to come and join Daddy and me in the Fitzroy Gardens? They are full of beautiful flowers, and there are lots and lots of places for us to play hide-and-seek. Won’t that be fun? Come along Moesje! Come Punky! Please join my Percy! We will have so much fun playing together!”

My bear Cornelia has made friends with a little bear named Moesje www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577217879...) a little bear named Punky (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577218558...) and his best friend Percy the Panda (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577220959...) Moesje is a beautiful Bukowski Bear from Paal in Belgium. She has come to live with Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)).She had been waiting in the dark corner of a shop with other bears for a long time, hoping someone would pick her up. All the bears were picked up, except Moesje. An appeal was made on the Internet and Mummy Marian sprang into action immediately! Moesje needs friends to love her, and Cornelia did not hesitate, for she has so much love to give to Moesje. Now Moesje's days are full of happiness. Punky Bear is a bear from the UK, crafted by Merrythought Bears who has come to live with Mummy Marian. His plush is mohair and his paws are made of cotton velvet. He is one of a limited edition for 2023 and is number 89. He is a very beautiful hand-crafted bear and Mummy Marian is very excited to welcome him to her larger bear family in the Netherlands. Percy Panda is a panda bear crafted by Merrythought Bears in Ironbridge in the United Kingdom. He is made of plush mohair and has paws are made of cotton velvet. He is a very beautiful hand-crafted bear, and now lives at Mummy Marian's house. He is best friends with Punky Bear who also came from Merrythought.

Cornelia, I found in an antique and vintage market quite recently. She is a vintage edition Russ Bear from their Mohair Collection. She is made of deliberately mottled mohair to give her that vintage look. One of a limited edition of 10,000, she was designed by artist Carol Hosfstad and is completely handmade.

Just on the edge of the Melbourne Central Business District's formal grid of streets, you will find the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens. A haven of green with avenues of elms, lush rolling lawns and beautiful seasonal plantings the gardens are populated with various buildings and points of interest.

In spring 2023 the gardeners of the Fitzroy Gardens excelled themselves with several annual and perennial borders in the area around the Model Tudor Village Planted with beautiful pink petunias, pink lollipop primulas, cinerarias in pink, white, purple and blue and rows of pink tulips they are a roar of colour! I have never seen these beds look so beautiful!

The Fitzroy Gardens was named after Sir Charles Augustus Fitzroy (1796-1858), Governor of New South Wales (1846-1851) and Governor-General of the Australian Colonies (1851-1855). The Gardens have a long history of over 150 years, few other capital cities can boast such a significant garden so close to the City's centre. As crown land the City of Melbourne are the custodians to preserve and oversee this magnificent garden, visited by over 2 million local, interstate and international visitors each year, it is one of the major attractions in Melbourne. It features many beautiful statues, a bandstand, the Temple of the Winds, a conservatory and Captain Cook's Cottage.
