Roy and Jillian arrive at Devils Tower, Wyoming in Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977).

            After a close encounter with a UFO, Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), an Indiana electric lineman, and Jillian Guiler (Melinda Dillon), whose young son was abducted, become obsessed with a mountain shape, spurring them to go on a cross-country quest for answers. They wind up at Devils Tower where they find the Army evacuating everyone. They recognize the Tower as the very mountain shape in their vision, so they continue to approach it in spite of barbed wire fences, road blocks and public warnings about toxic gas – and as a momentous event is about to happen.
