*Madeira rural @ Serra de Agua* - a photo on Flickriver

            The interior of the Atlantic island of Madeira is characterized by wooded mountains and deep valleys. Houses are often spectacularly built on slopes and farming is done on landscaped terraces (potatoes and all kinds of vegetables imaginable, etc.). Irrigation takes place through kilometers of sophisticated water channels, so-called levadas.

Das Innere der Atlantikinsel Madeira ist geprägt von bewaldeten Bergen und tief eingeschnittenen Tälern. Häuser werden oft spektakulär an Hängen gebaut und Ackerbau auf angelegten Terrassen betrieben (Kartoffel und alle denkbaren Sorten von Gemüse etc.). Die Bewässerung erfolgt durch kilometerlange ausgeklügelte Wasserkanäle, sogenannte Levadas.
