The village of Wellingore, in North Kesteven, Lincolnshire.

The Viking Way runs through the village, passing from the side of the cliff edge to Ermine Street. The largest building in the village is Wellingore Hall, the eighteenth-century home of the Neviles, who abandoned their ancestral home in Aubourn.

RAF Wellingore opened in 1935 and operated for ten years until it was decommissioned in 1945. It originally opened in 1917 as RFC Wellingore Heath. The control tower was demolished, but several pillboxes and the Battle HQ building still exist.

Second World War poet, John Gillespie Magee lived in the village when he was a Spitfire pilot serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force and where he flew from on the day he died. It is also where he wrote his internationally acclaimed sonnet High Flight, just a few months before his death.
