Blutrote Heidelibelle - a photo on Flickriver

            Die blutrote Heidelibelle, wissenschaftlich bekannt als Sympetrum sanguineum, ist eine Libellenart, die in Europa heimisch ist. Sie ist für ihre auffällige rote Färbung bekannt, insbesondere bei den Männchen. Die Flügel sind transparent und haben eine charakteristische gelbe Basis. Die Weibchen hingegen haben eine eher bräunliche Färbung mit gelben Flecken auf dem Hinterleib.
Die blutrote Heidelibelle bevorzugt Lebensräume in der Nähe von Gewässern wie Teichen, Seen oder langsam fließenden Flüssen. Dort jagen sie nach kleinen Insekten, die ihre Hauptnahrungsquelle sind. Die Paarungszeit der blutroten Heidelibelle liegt in den Sommermonaten, und die Weibchen legen ihre Eier in das Wasser ab.
Diese Libellenart ist nicht gefährdet und relativ häufig anzutreffen. Sie spielt eine wichtige Rolle im Ökosystem, da sie als Bestäuber und natürlicher Schädlingsbekämpfer fungiert.

The blood red damselfly, scientifically known as Sympetrum sanguineum, is a dragonfly species native to Europe. It is known for its striking red colouration, especially in the males. The wings are transparent and have a characteristic yellow base. The females, on the other hand, have a more brownish colouration with yellow spots on the abdomen.
The blood red damselfly prefers habitats near bodies of water such as ponds, lakes or slow-flowing rivers. There they hunt for small insects, which are their main food source. The mating season of the blood red damselfly is in the summer months, and the females lay their eggs in the water.
This dragonfly species is not endangered and is relatively common. It plays an important role in the ecosystem, acting as a pollinator and natural pest controller.
