Verreaux's sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi), or the white sifaka, is a medium-sized primate in one of the lemur families, the Indriidae. It lives in Madagascar and can be found in a variety of habitats from rainforest to dry deciduous forests of western Madagascar and the spiny thickets of the south. Its fur is thick and silky and generally white with brown on the sides, top of the head, and on the arms. Like all sifakas, it has a long tail that it uses as a balance when leaping from tree to tree. However, its body is so highly adapted to an arboreal existence, on the ground its only means of locomotion is hopping. The species lives in small troops which forage for food.

Vive en Madagascar y se puede encontrar en una variedad de hábitats, desde la selva tropical hasta los bosques secos caducifolios del oeste de Madagascar y los matorrales espinosos del sur. Su pelaje es espeso y sedoso y generalmente blanco con marrón en los costados, la parte superior de la cabeza y los brazos. The Kirindy Forest (or Kirindy Private Reserve) is a private nature reserve situated in western Madagascar, about 50 km northeast of the town of Morondava, near Ambivy. The forest reserve falls within the boundaries of the Kirindy Mitea National Park, which spreads further to the south.
The forest goes through two general seasons each year: the dry season, from March to December, and the rainy season, from December to March. The forest is home to a wide variety of animals, from lemurs and fossas to geckos and chameleons, and numerous birds, the majority of which are found nowhere else. Many species of iconic plants are also found in the region, from baobabs and spiny palms to Alluaudia and euphorbs.
In its infancy, the forest reserve was operated based on a sustainable timber harvesting experiment, as deforestation is an issue which has not left the region unaffected. It is said, in Malagasy culture, that the forest was named ‘Kirindy’ long ago, meaning "dense forest with wild animals". As it is located in the northern area of the Kirindy Mitea National Park, the forest is also known as "Kirindy Nord", or ‘northern Kirindy’. Before being renamed Kirindy, the area was called the Swiss people’s forest ("la foret des Suisses"), as a Swiss company owns the piece of land.
The Kirindy Forest is said to be one of the largest areas of protected dry forest in Madagascar. It is known for having a unique level of biodiversity.
The animal life of Kirindy includes over 65 species of reptiles and amphibians, 55 species of birds and 31 species of mammals, the majority of them found nowhere else on earth.

El Bosque Kirindy (o Reserva Privada Kirindy) es una reserva natural privada situada en el oeste de Madagascar, a unos 50 km al noreste de la ciudad de Morondava, cerca de Ambivy. La reserva forestal se encuentra dentro de los límites del Parque Nacional Kirindy Mitea, que se extiende más hacia el sur.
El bosque pasa por dos estaciones generales cada año: la estación seca, de marzo a diciembre, y la estación lluviosa, de diciembre a marzo. El bosque es el hogar de una gran variedad de animales, desde lémures y fosas hasta geckos y camaleones, y numerosas aves, la mayoría de las cuales no se encuentran en ningún otro lugar. Se dice, en la cultura malgache, que el bosque recibió hace mucho tiempo el nombre de "Kirindy", que significa "bosque denso con animales salvajes". Como está ubicado en la zona norte del Parque Nacional Kirindy Mitea, el bosque también se conoce como "Kirindy Nord" o "Kirindy del norte". Antes de pasar a llamarse Kirindy, la zona se llamaba bosque del pueblo suizo ("la foret des Suisses"), ya que una empresa suiza es propietaria del terreno.
Se dice que el bosque de Kirindy es una de las áreas de bosque seco protegido más grandes de Madagascar. Es conocido por tener un nivel único de biodiversidad.
