il Viale dei Cipressi di Bolgheri - a photo on Flickriver

            Il viale dei Cipressi è una strada che si estende da ovest a est nel comune di Castagneto Carducci, nel cuore della Maremma livornese.
E' lunga quasi cinque chilometri e collega l'oratorio di San Guido, che sorge lungo la via Aurelia, allo scenografico centro storico di Bolgheri, dominato dalla mole del castello. Il viale si presenta come un lunghissimo rettilineo, chiuso ed ombreggiato su entrambe le sponde laterali da una fila di fittissimi cipressi secolari, che taglia in due la campagna maremmana, ricchissima in questa zona di viti ed ulivi.

Il luogo è stato reso celebre da Giosuè Carducci, che per molti anni visse proprio in questa zona, nel famoso componimento poetico intitolato Davanti San Guido.

The Viale dei Cipressi is a road that extends from west to east in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of the Livorno Maremma.
It is almost five kilometers long and connects the oratory of San Guido, which rises along the Via Aurelia, to the spectacular historic center of Bolgheri, dominated by the castle's mole. The avenue looks like a very long straight road, closed and shaded on both sides by a row of dense centuries-old cypress trees, which bisects the Maremma countryside, rich in vines and olive trees in this area.

The place was made famous by Giosuè Carducci, who for many years lived in this area, in the famous poetic composition entitled Davanti San Guido.
