De fontein op het Binnenhof in Den Haag is in een ontwerp van de beroemde Nederlandse architect Pierre Cuypers die ook verantwoordelijk is voor onder andere het Rijksmuseum en Centraal Station in Amsterdam. De fontein is een geschenk van de Haagse burgerij als dank voor de restauratie van de voorgevel van de Ridderzaal.
